Do you have any general advice on “influence without authority” for an individual contributor?

As an exploratory tester, much of the non-routine part of my job consists of trying to convince developers, product managers, and designers that a problem exists or that a particular change is needed. This is often news that the recipient would prefer to be untrue or unnecessary.
